Broken

Just one bird falls silently from the sky One less meager nuisance; one less summer melody As sweet as an overlooked drop of melted ice cream splashing onto the unforgiving sidewalk Given the same disregard as a homeless butterfly caught in the rain, Its frailty abused, and soon, its wings become tattered through the struggle, despite its noble grandeur Treated with injustice, similar to that of a timeworn piece of twine used one too many times, Until at last, it surrenders to countless long years of burden with a snap as soft as the sigh of a newborn child gently drifting off to sleep, As precious as a tear emerging from an affectionate mother's hazel eye and dancing down her cheek But that is insignificant Like a lonely flower gradually dying as it patiently awaits a mere artless passing glance Once blooming with optimism, it wilts as its confidence dwindles As unimportant as a single star that forgets to shine for just one night But the beauty is that of the very last tiny golden leaf, tiny but adept, weaving and frolicking its way downward, following the winds insouciant act of plucking it from a grand oak on the edge of a neglected forest As graceful and delicate as the spider's silky web with its radiating splendor Its pattern appearing random in design But it is meticulously detailed like the wrinkles skating across a virtuous pool after a speckled pebble was dropped carelessly into its cobalt depths Flicking the light like a glimmering needle as it pierces a single red balloon The sound disturbs the soul as much as the whines of a deep-rooted house relaxing into the chill of a September night Cool as the graceful fingers of a tender breeze as they lightly trace a cliff side, sending a few grains of sand tumbling into obscurity Unnoticed, like a disorganized chaos of dazzling ideas shuffled on a dying man's writing desk His brilliance never to be appreciated as his temporal existence fades It is as agonizing as a single out-of-tune note in an otherwise magnificent operatic performance It seems only a negligible impediment Like dense traffic slowing the travel of a modest and youthful man But with the passionate anxiety he feels because of his helplessness He is impotent as his young wife suffers in the passenger seat The vexation is insufferable It is like attempting to catch up with the rapid pace at which grass grows Nothing can be done to relieve the sting. It's just one bird. One sparkle of hope falling silently out of the sky... So it is when you break a young girl's heart.
