Broken

So many times I heard the word broken

Never understanding what they were truly meaning

Today  marks the day that I finally understood

Exactly what it meant to no longer be unbroken.

Waking up today was just like any other

Classes, coffee, friends and conversations

There was no sign saying today would be the day…

That I would never be the same.

Classes finished and homework still not started,

A conversation with a friend turned to something less forgiving.

With every tick tock of the clock my heart aches more and more,

From the realization of what I thought could never happen.

Abuse they say can happen to anyone,

Me? I thought it absolutely impossible,

Today? That thought suddenly changed

Wounds formed that would never heal,

Never physical wounds that anyone would see,

But emotional wounds that cut further than skin deep.

Words.

Words are what cause all of my pain,

At first they didn’t bother me,

The lies never phased me.

I was untouchable, unstoppable, unbreakable

Until Today.

Today the words finally broke through,

Today I turned away,

Today marks the day that I will no longer let anyone in,

Today is the day trust becomes a myth…

Broken is now how I can explain how I feel

Now I understand what it is like to have fear

Fear to never trust,

Fear for all the lies.

Today is the day I am broken and no longer able heal.
