Broken Bamboo
Slithering upward toward the sun
the leaves begin unfolding.
Stalks of soldiers thick and green
thick mud and clay for molding.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The bamboo lays in pieces.
Each splinter stick swallowed whole
by slim and unknown creatures.
