Broken Child

Ragged curtains waved at the broken child
As the breeze carried away the last breath.
The night owl cried calling the hour of death
But nature wouldn't respond and Death smiled.

With every empty heartbeat the air turned wild
In fear of losing lovely Marybeth.
The air regretted taking the one last breath
Because her little soul would not ascend.

For once there was only one reason to mourn
All pain was gone yet no one last ending.
Death stood up and supposed in scorn
For he had to leave before she was born.
The broken child opened her eyes living
The rebirth of the last breath that was torn.
