Broken Crayon Box

Tue, 03/25/2014 - 18:33 -- JNT612

Born into a cold, cruel world.
Residing in a gray little town,
Where the liars dwell,
And is filled with fools.
A girl lives there with hopes and dreams.
A little different and rare.
As if anybody cared.
Her life is gray.
But she likes it that way.
Because she can color it herself.
Make the colorless pages
Sparkle with the unique colors of life.

Scribble. Scrawl. Scratch.
Make the ugly pretty.
Cross out the faces that gawk.
Rewrite the words that fall from the gossipers mouths.
Close your eyes as you walk through the school,
Where they all congregate.
You can feel their glare slice into you.
Their silent words try
To rip open your tough exterior.
I could pretend not to hear them,
And so could you.
But the ever present truth is,
It’s always there.
It never goes away.
It’s ugly, black, and repulsive.
You take up your crayons,
And try to make the picture pretty.
Try to color it with love.
But the gawkers, gossipers, and bringers of pain,
Are the colorless blobs,
That add to the hideous truth.
And break your crayon box,
So you can’t do a thing about it.

I could write my feelings,
I could draw up a better world,
Make a movie about all the hate,
But it won’t change a thing.
My goal is trampled on by the blobs.
No one cares for the art of individuality.
They all want to fit in.
They all want to blend.
They hide behind the walls of terror.
They are afraid of all the blobs that are themselves.

When I am home.
When I fall asleep and dream in color,
I see my real dream unfold before me.
I see a world of acceptance.
There are no blobs.
My crayons work in my dreams.
My crayons aren’t broken in my dreams.
Unlike my heart,
When I wake up.
I dream this because…
Because I want to be free.
No longer held down by judgment.
I will forever color the ugly truth.
I will recolor the ugly blobs that get in the way of my dream.
I will color the world as if it were a coloring book.
I can make the world sparkle with the unique colors of life.
So stand up.
Stand up fellow outcasts.
Take up your crayons,
And color.
Color until,
There is a brighter tomorrow.
