Broken Dreams

Astronaut or scientist

That was always the dream

Little did I know

They weren’t what they seemed

I just loved planets and DNA testing

Wanting to discover something new

So when a team blew up in a shuttle

I didn’t know what to do

Georgia Tech was my dream

I knew I was going to go there

But I was only in the third grade

And so unaware

So much math

And I couldn’t even pass my own

When I got old enough

That dream was blown

Valedictorian of 2017

I always thought it sounded great

But when I got the report card freshman year

I knew it couldn’t be my fate

Everyone had their permit

I couldn’t wait to get mine

When I went to take the test

I thought id be fine

As I looked at the computer

I saw that I had failed

So when I started to cry

I thought of my peers who prevailed

I always wanted a job

Money was going to get me far

Ever since I was young

I’ve wanted a car

Mustang or a Camaro

Not clothes or jewelry

But as time went on

I realized that was foolish of me
