The Broken Heart

Dear Boy,

I don’t think either of us knows how to be "just friends".

I know I certainly don’t.

I still look for you in every crowd.

I never saw this heartbreak coming,

But I can’t hate you though I’ve tried so hard

To find one thing wrong with you.

You were never anything but a perfect

Gentleman. Your honesty was the right

Thing to do, but it still leaves me swimming,

Drowning in an ocean of what-ifs.

I still want the best for you,

Still want your happiness,

Still think your laugh is the sweetest sound,

It’s a ringing bell on a winter morning

Clear and unmistakable.

And so, after all of this, I try my best to move on.

Every morning is an uphill battle.

Think of you, stop, redirect

But it’s like trying to forget breathing.

You feel so vital to my life.

I know I can survive without you,

But do I want to?

Forever yours, or am I?

Girl
