Broken Hearts / Lots of Cheese

I’ve always assumed my heart was shattered.
It has been busted, bruised, and torn; battered.
So, I hung a sign that read ‘out of order’ just above my chest
I figured people who saw it would understand the rest.
My flimsy little sign must have done the job right,
because there was never anyone coming to my rescue in sight.
Then, the moment you walked by
I think my heart heaved a sigh.
You had the glue and the tape prepared,
And you came closer than anyone else dared.
You knew it was busted beyond much more than a scratch,
Still, there was no turning back.
Tell me: how did you manage to take a such a broken heart like mine
and make it feel okay, almost fine?
I still see the the breaks
I can still feel the ghost of the pain of such an ache…
But things are better now that’s for sure,
How and why was I never looking for this cure?
I took down the 'out of order sign" yesterday, when you pulled out the ring
now my heart doesn’t have so much as a ding

I am Ansley. I am a coffee drinker, a hugger, and a puppy loving extraordinaire. I will talk about books for hours on end, and I will laugh at anything remotely comical. I work with students with special needs. I'm double majoring in special ed. & psychology (because I'm a nerd). I'm a leftie. I write from time to time, but it's hardly ever anything good. Get on my level.
