Broken, Not Shattered

As you get older, you get better at many things.

You get better at making your bed everyday,

You make sure you brush your teeth twice a day,

You get better at budgeting your money,

You make sure you spend time with your family.

But there is one thing that you can never improve at.

No amount of time will make it easier.

You will never get better at handling a broken heart.

It will be new and fresh, every, single, time,

You will feel the pieces of your heart crumble,

You'll sob when the void in your heart fills your mind,

You will question everyone and everything.

When you realize you can't do anything to change it,

You will feel just as lost as your last heartbreak,

Or maybe heartbreaks get worse each time.

As you get older, your heart grows bigger,

You crave a deep love, a real bond, a forever partner.

You will never get better at watching them leave.

It will hurt when you see their back,

As they walk away from you for the very last time.

You will cry when the memories flood back,

The last time you kissed them,

The last time you held their hand,

The last time you ever saw them.
