The Broken Optimist

Sat, 09/05/2015 - 21:24 -- MColt

I am the optimist, born pure into a world

that is broken and bent

Nurtured in a loving atmosphere

Happy, hopeful, positive

I am the optimist, tainted by the world

Remaining ever hopeful

Spreading a loving atmosphere

While hunger, massacres, and pollution surround me

I am the optimist, growing weary

The world continues to batter me

I remain strong

Tradgedy after tradgedy

I am the optimist, shocked and apprehensive

At my friends' wrists--their scars scream at me

Their lack of hope and happiness

Consume me

I am broken, holding onto hope

With merely my fingertips

Swimming in a deep sea

That is unknown to me

I am grabbed,

Saved from the sea of despair

By another optimist, the one I used to be

And they show me the way

I am the broken optimist,

Realizing that yes

We can make a difference

I may be broken, but I shall remain ever hopeful

I am the optimist.
