A Broken Promise

“I take you to be my spouse, to have and to hold from this day forward.”

How the world slaps this around like it’s nothing.

Nothing but words.

Thought once. Said the next. Then dead.

Dead in its meaning. Its promise. Its truth.

One day he has her, the next she’s gone.

“For better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish.”

The arguing, the screaming, and regrettably so, the hits.

All out of what?

Anger? Greed? Surely not love.

“From this day forward until death do us part.”

The hand of death has not yet reached the couple before their bound is broken.

The evil thoughts planted in ones head is like a virus that spreads.

Throughout the mind, the body, to others.

One by one.

Breathing. Coughing. Choking. Gagging. Wrenching. Gasping for air.

Hold on to the cure. Hold on to the truth. Hold on to love.

Hold on to God.

Wives submit to each other as to the Lord.

Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians 5)

Hold on to each other.
