Broken Record

“It’s only because I love you...”

The Past’s words echo in my mind like a broken record.

The Past seems to think of it all backwards.

Screaming,

Fighting,

Arguing,

And crying.

That’s not what love is.

In The Past’s,  mind there is no difference between love and harm.

But The Future, oh boy does he have it all figured out.

The Future will provide a damaged heart with a real sense of love.

“Are you sure you’ve had enough to eat?”

“Let me help you.”

“I saved you the last cookie.”

“Text me when you’re home safe and sound.”

That’s what love is.

And the mending heart replies, “Don’t worry I’ll be fine.”

The Future’s words will forever echo in my mind like a broken record.

“It’s only because I love you...”
