To a Broken Society and Who They Hurt
Ask me what I think of myself
Ask me! Go ahead! Spit it out
Cause I can tell you right now, it’s not much positive
Society these days makes us pick at ourselves
We poke and prod our bodies
We hate the lines that etch masterpieces on us
Our once bright eyes become dull as society continues to push us
Our smiles shrink as insecurities grow, blossoming into giant thorns
Sometimes it’s hard
We can’t look into the glimmering mirrors that cover our walls
Because society tells us we are not beautiful
You know what I say to that?
To hell, to hell with what society thinks
We are all beautiful
We are all gorgeous people
Our clothes
Our size
These things don’t define beauty
We do
Because beauty isn’t one thing
What does define beauty?
Not society
Not our age
And definitely not our weight
It’s the way we hold ourselves
How we speak when talking about something we love
The glimmer in our eyes when we do something mischievous
We define ourselves, don’t let society define you
