Broken Thrones
A heart of gold upon a broken throne.
Good intentions are masked by the crown of stone.
Power corrupts even the greatest deeds,
Leaves man starved with baseless needs.
Goodwill broken by blood and blade,
Only power may persuade.
A barbless whisper, a toothless bite,
A forked devil within the night.
When peace at all is better than none,
Only then will our race be run.
If the barest peace is the best that we can do,
It shows how thin light is shining through.
If good were strong enough to break the wall,
Why do the greatest empires always fall?
The broken throne will always win,
Power the heart of every sin.
Peace is always bought with blood,
And merely a dam against a flood.
We're only wrong when we're beat,
And only once we admit defeat.
Good is merely a mask we sought,
For small relief matters not.
A baseless shield against a storm,
An empty nest of good unborn.
Always once the throne is won,
Good intentions are the first undone.
Sacrifices of blood and bone,
Power makes them remain unknown.
After power, good will fade,
For it is nothing but an edgeless blade.
A worthless weapon without a sting,
Just another harmless thing.
