Broken Time

Sitting at the back of the class, watching the second hand tick,

it ticks really slowly, like it’s dragging gum around everywhere,

but when I look at you,

I swear, the damn thing is broken,

because no way it’s been that long,

since I started staring,

as I half hope you notice, and half hope you don’t,

but when you turn your head, and your eyes lock in,

that damn thing, I swear, it’s broken,

it’s stopped and I know I’m royally screwed.
