Broken Trust

I thought you trusted me,

For you once asked me

About my greatest fear,

And I told you

Of all people

Because I loved you.

I thought you loved me,

Because you told me you loved me

Long before I told you,

And before we knew that loved each other

There was a profound level of trust

Between us, a bond I thought

Could never be broken

Because it was once so strong

And now it seems paper thin.

I am not sure what to believe.

I am torn between

What you told me and what you

Have revealed about yourself through your actions.

You looked me in the eye

And told me you wanted transparency,

But you are just like the rest of them.

You looked me in the eye and

Lied to me over such a simple detail

But it cannot be overlooked

Because I once trusted you with

Every fiber of my being

And with the one simple mistake

You made by keeping it a secret

You forced me to rebuild the walls

I put up so something like this would not

Happen to me again, but then I let you in

Because I love you. 

I still love you, but love and trust

Do not always go hand in hand.

I cannot stop loving you,

But your simple mistake

Forced me to stop trusting you.

If you loved me, if you trusted me

Like you told me you did,

Why did you lie to me?

How can I put my trust in you again,

When you threw it all away last time

Over one mistake?

I want so badly to forgive you,

But I am starting to wonder

If you are even worth it.
