Broken wings

I used to fly so high up in the sky, so high nothing could reach me I felt so unstoppable, nothing would ever defeat me Sticks and stones wouldn't break my bones, words didn't hurt at all But then one day something got in my way and i had a great fall My mind went dark, so did my heart and anger began to engulf me I became my enemy, killing myself slowly My dreams were nightmares, my mind a mess, but still i acted sane But deep inside, my demons reside and i was in so much pain Things got worse and soon i searched for any release Lucky me as you will see, i had an epiphany Writing became my passion and my thoughts became my escape It seems so strange, how it happened, almost like it was fate My teacher showed me what i could do and i wanted to explore And soon i found myself writing, craving more and more Notebooks and pencils scattered around in case of a sudden thought And when happiness came to me again, i was caught... My sister had a child, but never did i think That one single child would soon become three My sister didn't want them, so our burden it became Now we're adopting them and changing their names And i sit here with my family, taking turns watching kids I never thought it'd be such a chore just to babysit But I'm still strong though my wings are gone, I've taken care of the pain And I'm now working past all of the resentment i held along with all my shame I am a girl with broken dreams but still i follow my heart Though my wings may be broken, i will not fall apart My goals are simple, my mind is clear and i will not back down For i refuse to stay broken when everyone else is sound
