Bronzed

We started like a penny dropped off the Eiffel Tower And somewhere along the fall, I realized that my terminal velocity falls somewhere between your chest and the sunset. You stole my armor in pieces— Continental drift— I didn’t even notice the bucket had tipped until the turning back burned more than the staying. Years ago, they taught me how to Stop, Drop, and Roll for you. Show me how you bathe in sunlight, Capture the glow in your hair, And roll the cosmos into marbles with your tongue. You’re my Prince Charming. And if love is a fairytale, Then I’m the crocodile and you’ve got me Captain Hooked. I’ll bite your line, sink into your arms and sea sponge your heat. You can bury yourself in the sand all you want, but I’ve got this string triple-knotted around my little finger pulling me wherever you go. So, stick me sun spheres to your ceiling I’ll bask in your light, wrestle the ground beneath your feet to river stones and sea-glass, I’ll protect your soles from this world and the next. I’ll take you peppermint high and 7-O cocoa low you are my dynamite. You kiss like Pop Rocks. The day you dropped your mento into my coca-cola heart I swore I would never let you go. I’ll be your mailman— post on Sundays— take you far away. Press your promises to my vertebrae And I’ll smuggle them through security. We can dip our feet in the Ganges and hang flags in Tibet for world peace. Have you ever held hands with a daisy? Chained yourself upright and let your bones do the shouting? I have restless leg syndrome, but if you asked, I’d stand still long enough to let the grass grow between my toes. And if they ask why I call you gravity, I’ll tell them it’s something I’ve never known. The feeling of being anchored to a place— of going home. And in the midst of my meltdown, I cried out— Save me— I’m not gold… and you whispered kisses to my eyelashes, said that Bronze, for all its imperfections, is stronger. And if English isn’t beautiful enough, J’essayerai en Français. Tu es mon pierre. Permet la mer venir And we will conquer all because we’ve come too far to fall.

I can honestly say I have never read anything like this. There are so many twists and turns. I love it.
