Brother

Brother......

Brother:

feeling sorry with one’s lot in life,

look right I beg of you

that fellow alongside;

has no feet,

wheelchair his quality of being mobile,

look left I say!

that lady holds a leather lead,

black dog are her eyes;

in guiding her around,

look behind!

child is crying;

tears are running down,

ribs a showing,

mother’s breast contains no milk,

look ahead!

young man in his teens,

harrowed eyes and thread-bare clothes;

cold pavement pillow

to rest his scraggy head.

Brother:

So you’re feeling sorry for self,

feeling miserable,

you know

if you look deeper within,

your misery

will fade into insignificance

when you look around,

around and around you....
