The Brother I chose

I shouted his name.

I begged for him to return.

I wanted him safe in my arms,

For he was just a little pup

who never became a dog.

I collasped as he did when the gunshots took his life,

the first upon our barricade,

taking my life,

my heart,

as well.

The boy wanted to be a man,

A man he looked to as a hero,

A man like me.

But we're all just schoolboys who never held a gun.

He wanted to prove himself.

He was enough for me,

the brother I chose in this life.

I could never love a woman

the way I loved my little brother.

He was always by my side.

If I am to die by the same cruel monsters who murdered an innocent child,

upon the same barricade,

I pray to lie next to him,

And I shall raise him proudly on my shoulders as he glimpses Heaven,

Brothers in eternity.
