Brown Girl

I am a brown girl

A brown girl in an animated world.

Areas of grey to be shaded by her experiences,

As she learns to cope with her biggest enemy,

Herself.

A brown girl who lets her emotions get the best of her.

Who allows her frustration to take over her.

A brown girl who lives by the code,

The code of respect for oneself.

A brown girl who believes that simplicity is bliss.

A brown girl who lives in an ignorant society,

A society in which she is born to fail yet built to win.

A brown girl

A brown girl who is understanding her worth,

Her value her place and her purpose.

A brown girl who’s biggest fear is losing herself,

Losing herself to the temptations of materialistic matters.

A brown girl who’s main focus is to remain focus.

A brown girl who’s strength is found in her mothers eyes.

A brown girl

A brown girl who walks with confidence.

A brown girl who finds herself free with a pen in hand ,

Or under a spotlight in a studio, barres on each wall of the room.

A brown girl who prefers to live outside the box.

Who would rather color the sky pink, the sun peach, and grass blue

A brown girl who realizes perfection is not beauty,

But nothing more than a fight to forget flaw.

A brown girl who accepts what she lacks,

Yet shows gratitude for what she packs.

I am Kalijah

A girl who’s name you’ll probably say wrong 100 times before you get it right.

A girl who’s personality you’ll most likely have to get used to.

A girl who’s presence is unforgettable

A girl that will leave the space she’s in even better than how she found it.

A girl who will change at least one person’s life before her time in this world is up.

A brown girl that is.
