The Brown People

It's the brown people that wear the crowns,

Crowns of anguish and sacrifice and blood.

Across my mind their cries are wound

Their tears are in my eyes, a chain-stricken flood.

It's the brown people that live in my dreams

My doubts crunch under their marching feet

And their words strike me like lightning beams

Fists that touch heaven pay their sins' fees

It's the brown people that inspire me

That make me realize how far I've come

And in my hand they have placed the key

To the locks that are left undone

It is I that love the brown people

The fighters who did not give in to consequence

The heroes who fought love with evil

The God-given royalty that have made all the difference
