"Brown Skin Girl"

"Oh she's cute for a brown skin girl" "she's pretty for a brown skin girl". These are comments I've heard almost all my life. Well I am a BROWN skin girl and it is about time I spoke up. See I hate it when people say “that brown skin girl is pretty”. Why can’t I just be cute, pretty, beautiful or gorgeous? No I have to be labeled by the color of my skin. The color of my skin does not define who I am as a person, a human being or an individual. See what you will never know is that this BROWN skin girl is intelligent, funny, and very talented. That this BROWN skin girl loves to write poetry and is a pretty good actress. Or that this BROWN skin girl loves children and has a huge heart. Did you know that this BROWN skin girl will drop everything if she sees someone in need of her help? Or maybe that this BROWN skin girl is insightful and great at giving advice. That this BROWN skin girl can have such an intellectual conversation with adults that will make them question if she’s only 19. Man this BROWN skin girl can debate with you and make you see her point even if you don’t agree. This BROWN skin girl has a love for her community. Oh yeah this BROWN skin girl has a deep passion for music from rock to hip-hop from Latin to gospel. One last thing did you know that this BROWN skin girl is destined for greatness and will not let the labels people put on her hold her back. You know what it’s ok though because people like that are giving me the fuel to speak up and be proud of being this BROWN SKIN GIRL! Oh and remember they say the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice!
