Brutally Honest
you asked for my heart
well here it is
written with the blood of shot students on the skin of black young men that were too dark to be living
in ur light
see if life is a game i wonder if us colored people in this land will ever wining
without a fight
i’m tired of brothers and sisters names as hashtags but nothing ever changing
before it was public hanging and now it’s public shootings
see the weapon of death has changed but what we can’t forget is that the color of the victims is still staying
i wonder from our sufferings what they wish to gain
is their pleasure from my silent tears because of my pain
or these scary truth written from vain
or pride in the numbers they’ve slain
look at my heart sitting right here
see the chiefs stool is worthless if it has no one to set the rules for this crooked game
because the chief himself was snatched and sold away
now what do u have to say
400 years yet still some have the audacity to say it was our choosing
bodies locked, souls bound, minds washed
THAT WAS NOT OUR CHOOSING
OUR escape meant OUR death but yet so did OUR living
so how were we supposed to escape and
find OUR way to happiness
see what we’ve forgotten was that u
gave us the shortest month for all the human names u have changed
all this due to the fact that u failed to see beauty in another race
MAYBE YOU DID SEE ALL OUR BEAUTY
maybe you noticed the riches in our land so u tried to claim it
or u noticed the beauty in our bodies so u tried to tame us
bullets buried beautiful black boys as they
showered their broken bodies with life seeking shells
but they continue to give us false promises with no action
they.....
they....
our bullets today....
we were told about the land of the free
but they forgot to tell us about the part where we were the ones to be caged
the ones held back
but i practiced as u continued to preach
preach of “freedom” that we’ll never reach
continued to have empty promises in your speech
however u have taught me that hypocrisy is a sign of the weak.
because only the strong can commit to what they speak
see these words are not meant to talk about the past
because history will never change but the future is unwritten
so grab ur pen and we can all write a better future to find away from this faulty system that’s meant to keep my people in prison
