A Bubblegum Story

I hope you are okay.

I hope you are fine.

You popped my bubblegum.

My only piece.

But I hope you had fun.

You don't have to worry.

No, you don't have to worry.

I swallowed my bubblegum

So that I could go numb.

I said I was okay,

But I'm really not.

You chose to pop my bubblegum when it was mine.

It went from cotton candy pink

To stormy day grey.

My bubblegum was no longer young.

It was chewed up and could no longer pop.

You found pleasure in the pop

And I found fear in the swallow.

You were first

And you were proud.

Let everyone know my bubblegum pop sound.

My chewed up bubblegum fell on the floor.

It got stepped on and used up once more.

No more pop.

No more powder puff pink.

No more bubble in my bubblegum.

It was gum, just gum.

But there came a day,

When I heard someone say,

"Do you have a piece of gum?"

"There's nothing left to pop," I said.

And they said, "it's not for popping".

My bubblegum life had changed

and I'd accepted that stage.
