Built by Anxiety

Little butterflies flutter around

Dancing in the overjoyed stomach of nerves

Beats are skipped in the hopeful heart

But a shadow remains in the depths of the mind

Exciting adventures await two souls

Walks under transformed trees

Senses carved into a fiery pumpkin

Lying on a green blanket as the sky reveals its secret

The adventures seemed endless

Or they did

Before the shadow attacked

Leaving an unfulfilled wish hanging in the air

She was afraid every second of every day

She never knew why

Her cursed imagination created nightmares of the day

And he knew

He watched as her brain tortured her

Feeling as helpless as it gets

He tried over and over to pull her out of it

But the shadow had already taken her

She felt like he no longer cared

As if he quit trying

He left her alone in her dreaded darkness

And she sat for hours crying

He watched as she worsened

Worried sick about her

He cared for her far too much

To ever leave her

Or so he thought

Her fears took her heart

Fights replaced the gentle love

He couldn't take another word

So he left her

In the midst of her wild storms

She fell to pieces

Knowing she should have reached out

She was a broken vase

Shattered by regret

He walked away

No longer wanting to hear her hurt

He couldn't carry her pain

So he found a new star

She turned her life around

And prayed to God

She learned time is precious

And words are everything

He continued searching

For that one star so bright

But none were ever good enough for him

They competed with his light

She found love once more

But this time with something much more

In a man who laid down his life for her

And loved without meeting her

Her life felt worth living

The shadow no longer there

Everyday was filled with true joy

And love was always there
