Bullying
Slut.
Faggot.
Stupid.
Fat.
Ugly.
Why.
Why must we use cruel words
Words whose effect we can’t understand
We throw out a word
Hurl it at someone’s head
And we do not understand
That word will haunt them for life.
They will believe it.
Let it define them.
Why do we use harsh words
When all any of us want is to be appreciated
Instead of calling someone a slut,
Look into their eyes and tell them that if they need someone to talk to, you will help.
Instead of calling them a faggot,
Reach out your hand and say, “Brother, I am sorry you have suffered.”
Instead of calling them stupid,
Say, “Here, let me show you how this works”
Instead of calling them ugly or fat,
Tell them you know how it feels to be unhappy in your body - everyone does - but together you can make it.
Who knows, maybe one day they’ll be the only person who can save you.
Every word you say makes a difference.
Even if you can’t turn it into something nice,
Think about what you say before it leaves your mouth
Think.
What does this word do.
Then don’t use it,
You are better than that.
