The Burbs

Out on the boulevard under the torn sky
let’s go to the coffee shop where we can dry,
streetlights ilumminated all windows aglow
let’s sit and watch dancers in a local show.

My favourite time, the Paris rush hours
mirrored floors glisten from the showers,
coffee aromas tempting to my nose
jasmine, lemon balm and evening primrose.

The promenade walks along the river Somme
imagining the battle of wars that have gone,
chateaus and gites, grand mansions as well
the cakes and rotisserie’s adding to the smell.

The old tram still perfect at the station in the town
streams of steam as the evening cools down,
In the distance the Eiffel Tower touches the sky
the suburbs of Paris, glorious to my eye.
