Burden

The burden of a lover's pain
Unequivocally resilient
Will rise from mushroom-clouded dust
Unaltered, permanent

Exhaling wind and shedding rain
Sextillion particles
United as one entity
Not bare, nor laced with frills

Melodic as a mockingbird song
An unfamiliar tune
With verbiage penned in a dreamer's trance
Beneath a harvest moon

A lilac severed at the stem
An unfinished lullaby
Which lingers in the smoke-filled air
And drowns the newborn's cry

The burden of a lover's pain
Transcends the written word
A volatile, undying star
Quintessential yet absurd
