Buried
Hearing an unknown piercing sound
My eyes fluttered open to stare upon a grave.
It was a girl’s scream that came from that location,
Looking down there were two arms from under the dirt
Working furiously to remove the mound on top of the body.
I did not see the face for it was covered by mud
Yet I had the feeling that I knew her
And that I was the only one among the crowd
That knew her every pain and desire.
Every time her fingers emerged from the dirt and grim
And my hope for her rose from my heart,
Another ton of earth was dumped upon her.
The world did not wanted her to rise
Everyone around was forcing her down
Preventing her from making a mark in our lives.
She wanted to prove that she is more than what they say
That she can become more valuable than the ground,
Which weighed heavier with each passing second.
Oh, how it hurt so dearly to watch
A family force what they called a burden,
The burden they never understood,
To its cursed and miserable grave.
With an intense curiosity
I forced my gaze upon the tombstone
Which bared my name.
