The Burning

When the summer wind blows, turning to an autumn gust.

It’s changing like my state of mind. Burning fear to an icy cool.

If it hadn’t been for the gentle push, to a sweet shelter I’d be gone.

I would be left in the burning air of July.

When the burning began I was solitary, blocking out those who I could hurt.

I didn’t mind, I had earned that. I had punished my-self.

If I hadn’t realized sooner, I could've hurt more people.

After the burning slowed, I realized more. I need to work for change.

I understood that I would have to go back, back to the root.

I had hurt someone great. This is the initial punishment.

I went back, forming a bond. As time went, the bond grew.

This bond has smothered this burning. Saving me from my-self.

All though it’s smothered it still burns, causing moments of pain.

They are brief, and livable. I'll take this trade eagerly.
