Burning the Midnight Oil

Long lost love

Keeping you awake

Nothing is ever okay anymore

Late nights

Working hard

Trying to find what you’ve lost

Searching for satisfaction

Somewhere else

Nothing is the same anymore

Something you held dear

It nearly destroyed you

You regret your choices

But refuse to accept the unhappiness

For a moment longer

Long lost love

The lamp has died

No light to follow

Not a spark of electricity

In the air

So you’re just burning kerosene

You’re burning the midnight oil to find yourself again

You gave your heart away

You said they needed it more

You could give them your love

And still live to tell the tale

But you didn’t realize that

Nothing can ever go back to normal

No more ‘just friends’

No more pretending to be okay

Go ahead,

Have a breakdown right here

Right now

Nobody will judge you

Someone just ripped your heart out

Let ‘em know how bad

It hurts

Long lost love

The lamp has died

No light to follow

Not a spark of electricity

In the air

So you’re just burning kerosene

You’re burning the midnight oil to find yourself again

You’re fighting the tears

Struggling to hide behind a smile

It’s obvious to the rest of us

Choking down a scream,

You can’t do this forever

It takes more courage to cry

Than it does to fake a smile

Long lost love is sometimes

The most cruel

Long lost love

The lamp has died

No light to follow

Not a spark of electricity

In the air

So you’re just burning kerosene

You’re burning the midnight oil to find yourself again

Burning the midnight oil

Just to find what you hold inside
