Burning Simultaneously

Burning Simultaneously

When I knew I wasn’t a kid anymore

August 2nd, 2015, 3:00 am.

How can one learn to forgive a mother?

When trust is slandered, like a gruesome name?

When daughters flee into the malevolent night?

It was three in the morning, across town and cold,

And she travels to the house of an unknown lover,

How can one learn to forgive a mother?

With a kitchen knife held between jean and thigh,

To protect herself with her street wits on sight,

Cold tears bleed, dampens the malevolent night.

Words are strong, as all are taught as child,

But apologies are simple, so she never bothered,

One must navigate to forgive a beloved mother

Kindness from strangers, when she should’ve died,

Silently and slowly, she got in, accepting free rides,

When daughters are cast into the malevolent night.

She can’t stay in hiding forever,

And she can’t find the words to bring her home,

How can one learn to forgive a mother,

When daughters flee into the malevolent night?
