Business Trips

My eyes widen, my heartbeat stops

So this is it, then, this is the top?

It feels different than I thought it would

It feels colder than it should

Five simple words, said just so

A bid farewell, before he goes

Done countless times in the last nine years

Soothing all my doubts and fears

But this time’s different, something new

I see the world with a different view

From just a few parting words, unlike the others

Before he left. “Take care of your mother”.
