Butterflies

I've been fighting with myself for a thousand years,

Your smile suddenly sliced through my fears.

On the first day you ignited these butterflies,

In the end every single one of them died.

So I'm not very good at letting people know how I feel,

I kind of just skip around the problem.

You laugh at my joke or comment on my poetry and my love ignites,

I wish I could control these butterflies.

But the heart isn't easy,

Like a bull and a matador,

Like my mind and heart at war,

Like I don't know what I'm fighting for,

Like I was a ship and you were my shore,

But the hurricane closed in.

And I think I lost you,

If you're alive,

Please give me a sign.

I'm a ghost,

With nothing but dead butterflies.
