Butterflies and Knives

There's a blizzard firing up on my soul It never stops, it never goes, it sits still Stars are not bright enough To melt away the frost Huge weak piles of ice A hopeful light broke through a cloud A streak of shiny The frost fought, but the patch of grass would not give in A punch threw the frost back Dissolving into the air Out the veins, out the lungs, out of truth But it started to snow again The heart's light could not fight it Truth hits it as a knife swipes the surface of the skin Pressing the chest, pushing all air out The pierced skin yelled its frustration The war stopped when one punch meant nothing All the snow melted instantly Out the veins it flowed, out the lungs, out my mouth Spilled and strained onto the carpet floor Like the seasons of the year This battle will come back as a memory A reminder of what once was, is now, today
