Butterflies and Me

If I were pretty, you wouldn't hurt me,

Right?

You'd let me be who I want to be. . .

Let me live how I want to live.

If I were anything but a beetle or a bug,

You would let me free.

Right?

These butterflies fly around me

One by One

And I watch them. . . Their wings:

Beautiful.

They're so sure of themselves.

Or they're like me on the inside.

Nevertheless. . . Their grace:

Beautiful.

There's no place for me to go.

I'm still just a bug -

A common thing.

People scream and step on icks like me.

. . .

Look,

I'm out of my cocoon.

Days go by.

Now,

People watch me and say how beautiful I am.

But I'm the same bug as before.

My wings?

Wings:

Red, Black, White, Gold.

At least,

Now,

I'm safe.
