Butterfly Boy
When I saw you, for the very first time.
I knew what I thought.
My heart sang like the prettiest wind chime.
My brain knew the pain that was bound to be brought.
But still, I felt the way I felt.
And still, I knew what you were.
You came close to where I knelt.
Softly, swiftly. I felt my stomach stir.
You were one of those boys.
A butterfly boy.
I was just to be one of your toys.
Simply a toy.
Impossible to catch,
No matter how long you spend chasing.
Like standing in the rain lighting a match.
But I'm already gone, heart racing.
I fell before I even knew.
You played your game,
and now you're through.
I tried to ready myself, but it hurts just the same.
Now I'm sitting here.
All alone in the dark.
Living my biggest fear.
Wishing I had that spark.
Wishing I knew what to do,
Just to make you stay.
Wishing it didn't hurt to think of you,
because the thoughts come every day.
I wonder if you ever think of me,
I wonder if you ever miss me.
Your emotions were never there to see.
We could never be.
I always cared to much,
whereas you never cared at all.
But I have this hunch,
it's because you're scared to fall.
Do you remember when we laughed,
and we just couldn't quit?
I wish that would've been a rough draft,
and I could go back and fix it.
I wish I could stop these tears,
and you would just stay.
I wish you could wipe away my fears,
and just find a way.
Sweet Butterfly boy,
I wish you wouldn't fly away.
