The butt of all jokes

I am the button under the right side of the sofa in the living room

Some living I am doing

I do not even get light where I live

I was once part of a dress- a fancy one

Until I died and fell off

It was all that weird Indian girl’s fault

She was eyeing me too much;

Should have grabbed her when I had the chance.

Now what will I do?

It has been a few days since I was gone.

How get back to my cotton polyester brand?

How will survive without laundry?

I cannot stay here.

I must escape.

I try to climb my way up!

Joining me is my new friend paper clip, and potato chip.

Yes, we had to leave popcorn behind because he got too old

We don’t need people to slow us down.

Paper clip pulls us up by pole-vaulting up the side of the couch

Potato Chip provides the strength and support we need to pull up

I provide the leadership and expertise

Since I know what direction we are headed in

(Don’t tell them we are going up or I’ll be out of a job!)

We finally manage to pull out and leave

I climb up with paper clip

We finally see the light of day

It’s shining through my button holes!

Finally! Life! Sweet life?

Wait-- What?--

We are in a landfill?

What are doing here?

Potato Chip? Paper Clip?

Suddenly a large obese man with a furry unibrow,

Wearing a blue pair of overall's that say “Regional Landfill”

Comes over and sits on the couch.

He eats potato chip, not caring about his crust.

Paper clip is used as a unibrow trimmer,

but when that does not work he is bent up and tossed aside

And last is me!

I am put inside his pocket.

Devoid of life I sit in there for hours.

I mourn the deaths of my friends. I pray for their souls in heaven.

I try to imagine my future in this pocket.

When might I see light again?

Is it even worth it to want to see light again. The first time was hard enough.

What do I do now?

I am all alone with no one to delegate orders to.

Any one?

Can you hear me? SAVE ME! This man stinks!

Then a hand comes out of the shadows.

It is covered in grease and garbage.

The overalls are what I am “polished” with

and then I am presented to a lovely redhead woman

She has on the most beautiful and elaborate pink dress

But it had only one thing missing

And I couldn’t quite figure it out

Until the lady took me in her hands and said,

“Why you are just the perfect button for my dress!”
