Bystander to a Bully

I sat alone in study hall

Trying to get all my work done.

I saw my peers around someone

Picking on him for fun.

I didn’t pay much attention to it,

Since I went on with my work.

The next class I thought about it,

And didn’t think of myself as a jerk.

The next day I went into school

Seeing the same thing happen.

I was a little shocked to see Jim there,

Since he was a leader and captain.

As I tried doing my work,

I heard the kid get punched.

When I looked over,

I saw his face was scrunched.

The veins in my neck

must have been popping.

As soon as I realized,

There were no signs of them stopping

I thought to myself

That I must do something.

I couldn’t let him be picked on,

For doing nothing.

I flew out of my seat

Like batman.

The anger in my eyes

Looked as if I were a madman.

As I approached the bullies,

I knew nothing good would happen.

But I didn’t think

That my I would blacken.

I never felt better

Being thrown to the ground.

Since the other victim’s frown,

Turned upside down.
