The Cage I Am
How did I explain my deepest desires to expose myself,
The cage I enclosed myself in an effort for protection,
Isolated me from the flying colors of the outer world,
There was no key in this prison to unlock the door,
And I screamed for someone to hear my sobs but no one did,
No one to break down my walls and let me out of there.
I tried and tried to erode the unbreakable jail myself,
Countless times I was able to open the exit just a crack,
Able to take a glimpse of the happiness that the others had,
Many images taunted me with what I could never have,
Reminding my boundless confinement boxed up alone,
Only for the gate to slam shut with a cold gust of wind.
Never could understand why it was me that was abandoned,
Exclusively-solitarily-aloof in spirit-body-and-mind alike,
With nobody willing to comfort or help assuage me but,
The cold droplets of rain disguising my streaming tears,
Sounds of rolling thunder masking my deafening sobs,
And the rot of my home concealing my decaying soul.
