The Caged Bird Sings

Forget everything you have told me

About the world; I now know

The truth. I can see

How afraid you are, how low

Even you had to stoop to show

Rebels and deviants your fee.

Maybe I had a chance to run

Open and free in your countryside.

Though, you would never look to the sun,

Hurting your eyes and losing your guide.

Eidolons never grew up to abide

Rules and restrictions on a gun.

Imagine how it must have felt

Among the countless hours with

My voice. Imagine the great

Fear you must have felt when you

Realized that your name was the one

Engraved in these bars, not mine.

Even trophies and birds can’t survive in a cage.

My family
