Caged with No Key
Confined, constrained, caught, caged
To a crossroads I’ve come at my life’s stage
The air is so quiet, obscure, cold
To the deadly malediction, my own soul I sold
The remedy, capsule, the cure, the key
There all this time, within my reach
It invites me to join itself and its’ mate
But excuses I make and say, “It’s too late…”
Bottle after bottle, puff after puff
With no regard but myself, I greedily gorge
Numbing the quilt as I indulge in my spoil
My mind becomes blurred, on the verge of insane
“This is my life I lead, so why should I change?”
Bottle after bottle, puff after puff
My kin lovingly tries to persuade
Shouting, “Free yourself now! Are you fond of this cage?”
“We worry of your life, your being, your health
“And yet you go on, thinking only of yourself”
So here I am, crouched and condemned by my sin
Clutching the bars, contentment herein
In a creature’s kennel, I deny the harsh fact
That the key is no longer within my grasp
