california autumn
| post afternoon, pre-evening glow sets on my window sill vertical shadows pull back from my wall and the temptation of a nap this late in the day is still something to consider i wonder.. when did this lethargy set in when did i stop noticing i sigh and wish i weren’t too old to go and lay down on the warm grass the way that i used to with my brother talking, laughing, fighting plans or conflicts never expanding beyond... what will it be tonight? star trek or the brady bunch? resting in my comfortable big chair the one right by the window closing my eyes and feeling the last rays of the sun caress and soothe my face and body in my mind i am 18 again on the back of an old honda motorcycle the four o’clock sun beating down on us zig-zagging our way through the laguna canyon california autumn creeps in and pretends it’s summer still and it seeps into my skin making memories and old desires bloom again |
