A Calling of Love

The tones go off, we are ready to go. No matter the time, rain, sun, sleet, or snow. We wait for the dispatch. It's an adrenaline rush NO other can match. We roll the trucks, we hit the lights, The sirens blare, we can save this life if we are prepared, mentally and physically, for what we may have. Some calls are not too bad, others are frightening, so we look to our inner strength, and react like lightning. We willingly volunteer our time all to help strangers who are victims of illness, injury, and crime. It really takes a special person to be one of us. Skills and tactics are important, but compassion is a must! We take up our courage and toss away our fear, all for a thanks, we may never hear. We look to God on every call because we all know that we can't save them all. We keep our judgement good and skills keen because our lives can be on the line on any given scene. This is our story, This is our lives. We don't do it for glory, it is truly a calling we could never describe and most do not understand, but we are always on standby so that we can help a fellow man. We are firefighters and EMTs, we volunteer to serve and to benefit the community. Though times it can be tough, we wouldn't trade it for anything! It is a calling of love for all human beings!
