can i ask you a question?
how is this going?
how am i doing?
is this what you thought it would be?
i’m in love with you after dark
and i can’t picture a world where i’ll love you less
once the mistletoe comes out for the winter.
when i think about kissing you under it
do you think i’m endearing? or overbearing?
am i supposed to care about that?
and based on whose rules anyway?
i don’t know what i want unless someone tells me so.
but i think i hide it well
or maybe you’ve already read me cover to cover
maybe you reread me every night, doublecheck the return policy on your receipt
didn’t anyone tell you i love hard enough to break?
i don’t just go halfway.
no, not when your divine mission
is to love love love her
love her so much it cracks my ribs
like those poems i wrote about her way back when.
pick up the phone when you want to hear my giddy breathing on the other end, darling
