Can I have this dance?
You looked beautiful that night,
Like the sun peeking out of a storm .
Even in the dark light,
I could see your elegant form.
For one minute, I got lost in a reverie.
I daydreamed of a possible future with you.
I looked up to see you glance away cutely,
And I felt my heart melt to fondue.
In a streak of impossible courage, I made my way to your side.
Your friends noticed and gently nudged you toward me.
When I reached you, your friends teasingly sighed.
I stretched out my hand, a silent plea.
My hand shook as I took this risky chance.
You glanced at me for a moment.
I cleared my throat and asked, “Can I have this dance?”
You nodded, ending my internal torment.
