Can We Make a Mountain Out of Leaves?
Could we make a pile of leaves so high,
that the mountains that we climb tremble at the size.
So that when we have to climb that mountain,
we can get to the base and think,
"we can climb this because we have made something higher."
So we grind our teeth and make trenches out of our muscles as we climb.
When one falls the other will pick them up.
Bruises on our knees,
blood on our palms.
Yet we still continue to climb because hey,
"We've made something bigger. We've gone through harder times."
we make slow progress.
Fingers start to bust and fingernails get stained with dirt.
Higher and higher until we lose our breath.
Our lungs protesting at the lack of oxygen.
They forget how to do their job.
Almost to the top, anticipation starts to arise.
"If only we wouldn't have made that pile of leaves we wouldn't be here"
