Can You Define Love?

“Because I love you,” he joked as he forced me to take the ice cream cone.

“Because I love you,” he whispered as he wiped a tear from my eye.

“Because I love you,” he grumbled deep in his throat when we were alone.

“Because I love you,” he yelled, and I forced myself not to cry.

One in three women will experience love that’s smacked across the face and violently shoved

Down their throats as they cry for mercy, but no one can hear them. No one even worries.

Men are not taught how to give love gently, quietly, pleasantly, and most of all carefully.

Women are not taught to accept love that’s given, but instead seek out men with money

And bad attitudes; men who think women are for cleaning and for children-caring

But neither are right. No one is exempt from the rules of decency, no one has special rights.

What do I see when I think healthy relationships?

I see sparkling eyes and smile-stretched lips.

I hear laughter and thoughts being shared.

I feel warm hugs in a tight-knit grip.

I taste the kiss that’s delivered with care.

Love isn’t a feeling that you get in your stomach, the butterflies and fuzzies, that’s not love at all.

Love is trust, love is teamwork, love has no walls.

Until making someone happy is your ultimate aim,

How can you expect someone to love you the same?
