Can You Guess It?

From the very beginning, they held me close

Nestling me against them when I needed it the most

Through the long nights of crying and despair,

They whispered soothing prayers to calm the air

It was a challenge I know, I was their first

Ornery, stubborn, and probably the worst

Though it wasn’t easy, their love I got

To push and motivate my every thought

The terrible twos, they came and went

And still their will I had never bent

Tee ball and soccer they pushed me to stay

And there they were every step of the way

The next stage was when school came

And that was a whole different game

“My hairs too messy, my clothes too tight”

And still they managed to make everything right

I didn’t want to go to school, I missed them too much

But then a call of “I love you” and such

Art and science projects they helped me complete

More theirs than my own, but they kept that discreet

Through spelling tests, papers, and everything

They were there helping me like I was queen

Then elementary school came and past

Intermediate and middle followed in a flash

I was a teenager – no longer in need of them

They were old news, uncool, has-beens

I left them to hang out with my friends

Their house just another place for me to spend

I fought, I pushed, I made them cry

But I still had their love, the only question is why?

Terrible and cruel like most teenagers are

I pushed them away and I had pushed hard

But finally when all the madness did end

I looked to them, and they were where they’d always been

To support and to love – that was their job

No matter the repercussion, no matter the cost

I was their daughter and always would be

It just took some time for me to see

They are my world, my support, my motivation

Even through my moments of condemnation

Now I realize they have been their my entire life

And will continue to be their each day by my side

But still our relationship continues to grow

Each time filling in an old hole

So if you haven’t guessed these people that watched me blossom

It’s for these reason that my parents are exceptionally awesome
